Description
The pattern is inspired by a dress worn by the Roman noblewoman Bianci Degli Utili Maselli, who had herself painted with her children by the artist Lavinia Fontana in 1604. Perhaps, precisely because Lavinia Fontana was a woman, the dress is painted in every detail, including jewellery and hairstyles. Even so, it was not easy to transfer the decorative motifs into the jacquard pattern.
